JOHN ASHBOLT: You are the first astute musicologist to have caught me out. Arthur Lee was a genius of the first order, and I was lucky enough to have seen LOVE live at the original Fillmore Auditorium in 1966, when Bill Graham was just beginning his career as a concert promoter. At that concert, Graham came up to me and asked what I thought of these concerts he was putting on in San Francisco's dilapidated buildings. What COULD I think? I was totally enthralled by it all, and LOVE's concert that night was a tour de force. But you called it: "Forever Changes" is a masterpiece, and Arthur Lee a master.
