AFTER THE CLOSE ******

MONDAY WRAP. The Internet juggernaut will continue for another day, as eBay's (EBAY) solid earnings report will lead to another strong open tomorrow. eBay reported earnings of $0.05, beating estimates of $0.02, and Q1 revenues of $34 mln beat estimates that were in the $25-30 mln range. On Instinet, eBay traded up to 214 from a close of 209. The Net sector will also benefit from the sure-thing -- an Amazon.com (AMZN) press release. Amazon announced the purchase of three companies today: exchange.com, accept.com, and Alexa Internet in all stock transactions totalling $645 mln. AMZN had not traded since the announcement as of this writing, but has a bid/ask of 206/211 from a 207 3/16 close. Other earnings reports after the close included good performances from Uniphase (UNPH), Business Objects (BOBJ), and Cheap Tickets (CTIX), while the disk drive sector continued to get hammered, as Read-Rite (RDRT) missed numbers by a mile. UNPH traded up slightly on Instinet to 121 3/4 from 121 3/8, BOBJ was up a point to 28 1/4 in after hours, and CTIX was up 1 1/4 to 43 (RDRT didn't trade after its report). Tomorrow's big report is America Online, which is due after the close. There is not surprisingly a great deal of optimism ahead of the report, and AOL traded up another 2 points to 162 after the close.
