Mr. K. Crosby reports
A 100 per cent interest in a 78 claim unit property covering a two mile strike length of a gabbro-ultramafic intrusion has been acquired along the eastward extension of the Quetico fault east of Lake Nipigon in Fintry Township. This fault trend controls the emplacement of a number of platinum-palladium bearing ultramafic (pyroxenite) gabbro, gabbro-norite bodies including the Lac des Iles complex which contains the only Pt-Pd producing (3,000 tons per day) mine in Canada. In a number of cases these bodies resemble the Alaska-type ultramafic bodies that contain significant Pt-Pd zones. These bodies range in size from 400 metres to 1.6 kilometres in length in the Atikokan area and occur along a 200 mile long section of the Quetico trend west of Thunder Bay, Ont. Some of these bodies contain assays as high as 0.3 ounces PGE with significant nickel and copper contents in the Atikokan area. In Fintry Township the property also sits on a trend of carbonatite bodies which in the case of one body contains significant copper and palladium values. This structural junction creates an important geological setting for the development of magmatic massive sulphide (copper-nickel-PGE) deposits.
The claims were purchased outright for $5,000, and 100,000 shares to be issued in four equal stages, and a 1 per cent nsr which may be purchased for $500,000 at any time.
Followup geophysical surveys consisting of magnetics, induced polarization, electromagnetic, and mapping are planned for the summer.
