That's correct, UMG (through the USWest influence) is offering POTS via traditional switched architectures. Not voip. Likewise for CSCMA, although they've already begun dabbling with some IP trials.

Both of these cablecos have quite a bit of embedded stuff that will be dead weight in a couple of years, well before their erstwhile retirement age. [That is, if the voip trials are successful, which I strongly believe they will be.]

I don't suppose that this older technology handicap will be very influential in T's decision processes. They didn't seem to care that they were picking up a lot of horrible plant when they yanked TCOMA onto their stage.
