Thanks, jla...We saw a couple of Broadway shows while in New York, "Rent" and "Miss Saigon". While I question its appropriateness for a school trip, and obviously find some of its more pc elements irritating, the hype over "Rent" was mostly appropriate. It has a great score, and the story is affecting. Also, there were interestingly un-politically correct elements in the production, like casting a black man as the yuppie scum. I had seen "Miss Saigon" in December, but it was worth another look. To me, the most affecting scene is the flashback to the fall of Saigon, and our abandonment of those who were sure to feel retribution from the Communists...Still, the best single number is probably the song about the half- breed children.
