Suppose that in a strange twist AOL and Comcast do bid for Media One topping AT&T's offer. I think MSFT may then get involved but to work out a deal with AT&T to top the Comcast bid.
Yea I know it is far fetched but the possibilities are many.

However, this is my feeling about the situation:
AT&T wants Media One for both long distance by cable lines along with internet access to develop its "web". It depends upon what is more important, long distance or internet. I believe it is the internet.
That is why MSFT may feel threatened. Now MSFT has a chance to become a big player----they get roadrunner and a piece of ATHM. They may never see such a great opportunity again. I think they are having serious discussions on whether they could pass up such an opportunity at this early stage of the net. Remember MSN does not dominate the net and therefore they are willing to do what it takes to ensure that it becomes the number one portal site. It is still one of the best(by unique users), but getting into cable internet access and being able to excercise a lot of influence could be great for MSN.
