Lucky,
We are all here to teach each other, thats why I call this thread my home. This thread is without a doubt one of the brightest on the net(and one of the most compassionate). Its funny that you think it takes more skill to focus on 3 or 4 because I think its just the opposite. I could not possibly know enough details about 15 positions at the same time without making some serious mistakes. I look for 2nd 3rd tiers that clearly were run up on B.S. news and speculation that I can clearly see were run up by a specific impetus. I want to be able to determine that daytraders and hot money were the ones that contributed to the run and look for very weak fundamentals. I don't short on valuation as a criteria alone but rather combine it with deceptive practices by the company, multiple press releases , competition, cash position, convertible financing, etc. etc. Its an art of combining and balancing these various factors which influence my decision. Not too many pass most of these tests every single month. I dont daytrade but hold these positions from several days to several months. Eventually the hype fades and I keep recycling with new shorts. I think anybody can do this as long as they are willing to descriminate, stick to stop losses, avoid getting heavy in any one position, and willingness to admit when they are wrong. Its probably easier said than done but I enjoy it so its not like work. I love going after garbage and feel we employ a very important role in the market.
Ok enough Rambling Gotta find a new short!!!
