MetaStor Storage System Named Finalist For Network Computing's 1999 Well-Connected Award

Proof of LSI Logic Storage Systems' Leadership Position in Network-Attached Storage, MetaStor SH850 Chosen for Multi-Protocol Support

For Ease of Network Administration

WICHITA, Kan., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a proven leader in superior storage systems, today announced that its MetaStor(TM) SH850 network-attached storage system, has been named a finalist by CMP Media Inc.'s Network Computing for a 1999 Well-Connected award in the category of "Network-Attached Storage." The MetaStor SH850 product was chosen for its support of multi-protocol environments such as Windows NT(R), Unix, NetWare(R) and AppleTalk(R). Additionally, the MetaStor SH850 was chosen for its inherent scalability on three separate planes: capacity, performance and availability.

"MetaStor scalable network-attached products allow customers to create the perfect storage system to meet the ever-changing needs of their unique enterprise," said Bill Reed, managing director of the MetaStor Storage Solutions group. "Whether customers have multiple sites tied to a centralized data center, or autonomous workgroups running independent applications on their own networks, MetaStor network-attached storage systems afford a flexible, yet well defined growth path, that protects their storage investment now and into the future."

Winners of the Well-Connected Awards will be revealed at a gala event on May 10, 1999, during the NetWorld+Interop 99 Las Vegas trade show. All finalists will be highlighted in the May 17 issue of Network Computing and also on Network Computing Online at networkcomputing.com.

"Our Network Computing editors worked at length to research and test the best products in the networking arena," said Fritz Nelson, Editor-in-Chief, CMP's Network Computing. According to Nelson, the products singled out in the Well-Connected Awards are unique because "they are not a measure of popularity -- they are quality products tested over a networked enterprise firsthand by editors themselves. So we know that the MetaStor SH850 storage system is truly an innovative solution."

The MetaStor SH850 is a product in the MetaStor network-attached storage family. The MetaStor SH850 Workgroup system is complemented by the SH7000 Department and SH7400 Data Center systems. This range of products provides scalable capacity from 27 GB up to multi-terabytes. Additionally, high availability is provided through integrated RAID 5 and redundant, hot-swappable components. The MetaStor SH850 system also simplifies administration with the JetWorks(TM) Plus operating environment and an integrated AIT library.
