You really havent been around very long, have you? A year ago a small company was awarded the rights to "animation on a computer screen or other display device" and immediately sued practically every videogame company in existence.

He was eventually tossed out of court because of "prior usage" examples that preceded his patents. The patent office admitted it makes mistakes and sometimes issues patents it shouldnt.

Several years ago, a rather large company claimed to hold the patent on "Multimedia" of all forms. They sued everyone in sight, and eventually were tossed out of court.

Less than 12 months ago, a firm appeared that claimed to have the patent on any kind of electronic commerce that involved on-line-payment for a downloadable item. They sued everyone in existence, and some companies like IBM went along and paid the "license fee", but it was eventually thrown out of court.

If you think priceline is the first company to practice the method of "the buyer sets his own price", then you really are smoking some fine stuff indeed. This too, will be thrown out.
