Not optimistic, trying to be realistic.
I wonder why everyone is so optimistic except me about the short term effect of all of this
It is a bit scary having the threat of AOL siding with Comcast on this bid for UMG. That threat may be enough for the stock to take a short term hit. I'm trying to think like Case here. Why should he risk pissing off T, taking a hit earnings and stock value-wise for a bunch of cable assets that he never wanted to bid for in the first place if he can simply use the threat as leverage to get what he really wants....access?
Same thing with MSFT. Here is a company that has perfected the art of making huge amounts of money without ever owning huge amounts of capital assets (they even rent a good portion of their employees). Their stake in Comcast was a foot in the door, so they would have say in the software in the set top boxes. Why would they want to own a large portion of cable assets if they didn't have to?

<<<Still ATHM 2001 in 2001...>>>

You might be right about this, it is less than three years away. If you are correct why try to time the stock? The train may easily leave you at the station while you are inside the station house trying to trade for a discounted fare.

Say Comcast is not gone as you project, say the news is good and the stock breaks out to new highs and runs upward. On the other hand, even if Comcast is gone so what, the future is looking good for ATHM. Until something changes this, I am not going to try to second guess the up and down bumps along the way to your forecast of 2001 in 2001. I temporarily lost CMGI two or three times that way when I had to buy the stock back after it had ran past me while my head was turned from the screen (actually I may have been somewhere that day and not watching).

I like Ahhaha's targeted forecast of $28,000 per share better than your anyway. <:}

Regards,

Wingman

Comcast owns 14.6 million shares of ATHM.If they cancel their contrac t with ATHM they must sell their stock back at $.50 per share.Do you think they would leave $2.3 billion on the table?Large sums are at stake in the various deals,but that's not small change. Peter
