To all - new NASDAQ short interest figures out. QCOM -- 8.953 million shares sold short (as of 4/15/99) vs. 8.292 million shares sold short (as of 3/15/99).

Closing bid on Qualcomm :

4/15/99 .... 157 1/2
3/15/99 ..... 82

Jon.

Nice post JG..

Some of the main standards for W-CDMA were, in Qualcomm afficionado's views, created so that Q-CDMA would not be backwards compatible with cdmaOne or IS-95.

This should have read:
Some of the main standards for W-CDMA were, in Qualcomm afficionado's views, created so that WCDMA would not be backwards compatible with cdmaOne or IS-95

Here's a little more:

3G means 3rd generation.1st gen equals analog.2nd gen are the digital standards in use today.

IF WCDMA had been chosen as THE global standard without including CDMA2000, operators such as Sprint would have had to retool their systems to comply. The situation remains somewhat murky in that parameters have not been decided upon for WCDMA as of yet, nor do we know whether Europe will adopt only the WCDMA mode, and what NTT DoCoMo of Japan will do.

For those of you new to the QCOM Universe who are interested in this important stuff here are some links that might help:

cdg.org

search2.qualcomm.com

Here's a good place to start on the Q thread looking at the 3G discussion. Bookmark Walt Houston, Gregg Powers, and Clark Hare and read their posts to get a technical understanding without reading the entire thread, but if you have the inclination and the time read from the post below till Feb99 and you'll have a much better understanding of things.
