4/22/99 Crossman/JP Morgan CC notes (a few additional items)
All parties had a very confident tone. Bernie said G* is "on target" for 9/99 commercial service. G* has considered all of the I* pitfalls. 40M "plus" addressible market.

1. Hands free car legislation. Mike Kerr (Airtouch) remarked that they see a nice opportunity and "big deal" for G* as more and more cities/states/countries adopt safety legislation for wireless phone use in cars. AirTouch employees are in San Diego working with Q* employees on the phones and simple car/phone integration kit. [Could be a nice tie in with a car manufacturer.]

2. Ads. G* ads start in July 99. Kerr said the Christmas ads would be pull ins to local stores to see/buy the new, exciting satellite phone product.

3. 20 sats. Bernie said the 20 sats are "acting perfectly" and testing is going well. Should have 40 sats by 9/99 rollout but only need 32.

4. Q* phone. Bernie has a version in his office. 7.25-inch height and 12 ounces weight [could be wrong about these numbers] with nice features. Will have extensive summer beta testing. Future phones will have many improvements.

In his introduction, Bernie stressed the differences in the G* and I* phones [I guess because everyone has laughed at the I* phone.] G* phone is a complete, discrete unit which is very consumer friendly compared to the I* phone with lots of gadgets and need for additional cards. Bernie joked that, when he got an I* phone, he couldn't tell "which one was the phone!" due to all of the apparatus and size (described as a 3 feet by 1 foot box).

5. 14% of business plan. I really liked Bernie's closing about G* "extraordinary profit structure." [I guess that's why he bought another 100,000 shares at $13 for a nice $800,000 paper profit]. As mentioned in prior notes, G* only needs to meet 14% of projected business plan to cover all operating costs, interest payments and fund a complete G-2 replacement system. [Loved the subtle look forward, i.e., increase your multiples, guys, because G* is going to be the high quality, low cost mobile satellite telephony provider of choice around the planet. Okay, enough editorializing. djane]

April 27, 1999

Iridium Reports Wider Losses

By REUTERS

ridium L.L.C., the satellite phone company, said Monday that its
first-quarter loss widened as the company's results fell short of Wall
Street's expectations amid disappointing sales.

The company, whose two top executives have
quit in less than a month, posted a net loss of
$505.4 million, or $3.45 a diluted share,
compared with a loss of $203.57 million, or
$1.45 a share, in the quarter a year earlier.

Analysts expected the company to lose $3.17 a share, according to the
First Call Corporation, which tracks company earnings. Shares of Iridium
World Communications Ltd., the publicly traded entity representing
Iridium, rose 37.5 cents, to $16.375.

Iridium, a consortium based in Washington that allows paging and
wireless communication anywhere in the world from a single phone
number, posted revenue of $1.45 million after reporting no revenue a
year earlier. Some investment firms expected revenue of $7.5 million.

In another executive departure, Mauro Sentinelli, an executive vice
president for marketing and distribution, will leave the company.
