"..A number of mutual funds cooled off in the first quarter of this
year, at least in terms of the amount of money invested in those funds. The overall flow to stock and bond funds totaled $42.1 billion, down 51% from the first quarter of 1998 and the lowest first-quarter inflow since 1995........, analysts at Financial Research say.

Despite the downturn, Vanguard Group is on pace to attract even more money to its stock and bond funds than in 1998 when a record $48.9 billion was invested. Vanguard's funds took in a net $18 billion in the first quarter, almost 27% ahead of last year's pace. Vanguard's funds are taking in money at almost twice the pace of its closest rival, Janus.."
