Mike, the silver can in the photo appears to be like others which are standard outdoor poletop enclosures, made by a number of manufacturers. The ones you are alluding to can be used for remote field node provisioning of various types of units... including load pots, repeaters [and other line conditioning units], remote dslams I suppose at some point, and an assortment of other special assemblies. Tim or Denver Techie can probably give these enclosures their due, specific names.
