Kanematsu Semiconductor to Distribute DarkHorse in Japan; Boosts Module Tester Presence in World's Largest Memory Tester Market
AUSTIN, Texas, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Tanisys Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: TNSU - news), a leading supplier of memory module test equipment under its DarkHorse® Systems brand, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Kanematsu Semiconductor Corp. of Tokyo to represent its memory module testers to customers located in Japan. Under the agreement, Kanematsu will provide local sales, service and support for Tanisys tester customers in Japan.

Tanisys believes this agreement positions its DarkHorse Test Systems to become a volume leader for memory module testers in Japan, which many semiconductor analysts cite as a major center for the computer memory industry. Kanematsu sent personnel to Tanisys for training on DarkHorse products and already has installed demonstration equipment in its customer support facility located in Shin-Yokohama near Tokyo.

''Five of the world's ten largest semiconductor memory suppliers are located in Japan, and these companies sell a major percentage of the world's memory modules,'' said Chuck Comiso, Tanisys CEO and President. ''We believe Japan will be a strong market for advanced memory module testers and represents a growth opportunity for our DarkHorse Systems business. We are very pleased to enter into a new relationship for Kanematsu Semiconductor to represent DarkHorse in Japan, due to their experience in selling, supporting and servicing manufacturing and test equipment to Japanese memory manufacturers. The agreement provides Tanisys with an unsurpassed representation in Japan and provides Kanematsu with a strong memory module test system brand, while providing customers with the strong service and support which they demand in module testers.''

''We are pleased to become a distributor for Tanisys Technology's DarkHorse memory module testers,'' said Tadashi Miyano, Director of the Board and General Manager of Equipment Sales for Kanematsu Semiconductor Corp. ''The DarkHorse product line has test capabilities we could find in no other affordable memory module testers. We are excited about the prospect of selling the SIGMA*3(TM) family to our Japanese customers.''

''Japan produces significant volumes of memory, which makes it an important market for upgrading memory module tester capacity to the new memory technologies for which DarkHorse is a leader,'' said Sherry Garber, Senior Vice President of leading market research firm Semico Research.

The SIGMA*3 Model 200 is the first affordable tester for the PC100 architecture memory modules shipping to customers. The SIGMA*3 is designed for module manufacturers, semiconductor suppliers, PC manufacturers, system integrators and others needing to test memory modules. The Model 200 has an upgrade path to the Model 800 which supports 800MHz Rambus memory to permit customers to leverage their investment over time.
