Yes, stopping a dog remotely is essential. With Heel, and Down (or Stop -- but I think Down does it all much better) you have a useful, obedient dog. Now if you can get him to gee and haw you can get some hunting and retrieving out of him. I have a Border Collie that demands constant training and work, and no longer live in a free range. He would have made an excellent gun dog, although he would probably have insisted on herding the pheasants and quail to me rather than fixing them in place.
