You may want to consider future orders being placed as day orders instead of GTC orders to insure an order you wished to cancel Friday does not get executed unknown to you the following business day. As far as Datek helping you with compensation or anything for that matter I wouldn't count on it. I have had many (slow) execution problems with Datek and it is always "not their fault" JB

For the record: Kevin Sweeny of Datek called me back, indicated that he would get back to me by Friday regarding why an "order cancelling" message wouldn't execute over the weekend, and stated that they had no record of the cancellation.

Since I have no proof of the message I saw Friday--and indeed, I can't even recall for certain whether it was a "cancelling" or a "cancelled"--I understand Mr. Sweeny's position. He did not hurry me and was polite.

Still, Datek needs to get this examined. 65 1/2 hours is plenty of time for an order cancellation to be processed. In the past, a "cancelling" message has always been sufficient for me once the market has already closed.

If this isn't rock solid reliable (or even if it is), I think Datek should consider either not accepting or sending noticed about day orders that arrive between, say, 16:00:00 and 16:05 (or however long it takes for their systems to resolve the end of the day activity.) One should not have to wait hours to find out whether their AFTER-market order cancellation went through.

As a practical matter, I've learned my lesson for the time being: never trust anything but a "order cancelled" in your messages.
