CUBE guys,

First of all, Im not one of the ones slamming CUBE. For the record, I held alot of shares of CUBE a couple of years ago which never did anything! Maybe I wasnt patient enough. I still think its a good company and have them on my watch list.

Anyway, It is my understanding the BRCM owns the Cable TV Transciever along with the DOCSIS-compliant cable modem solution in the GI DCT-5000. BRCM apparently is in good position on these components according to a recent interview done by Merrill of GI's managers.

As far as expanding their presence in set top box real estate, BRCM got some good reviews on their 7014 Graphics chip at the Western Cable Show in December. Currently, GI uses the NEC MIPS microprocessor and ATI Graphics processor in the DCT-5000.

I wouldnt assume BRCM is putting all its eggs in one basket, ignoring standards based solutions or neglecting competition. I see them trying to expand their solution base. Witness latest acquisitions.
