NP says Yorkton defends Bid.Com report

Bid.Com International Inc

1999-04-26 close $24.5
Tuesday Apr 27 1999
The National Post reports in its Tuesday, April 27, edition that Yorkton Securities
chief executive officer Scott Paterson says his firm should be credited with having
the guts to suggest a company it had underwritten had an overvalued share price.
The National Post's Garry Marr writes that instead, Yorkton came under heavy
criticism from investors, upset that Yorkton analyst Mark Pavan had issued a
five-page morning comment last Wednesday saying Bid.Com International had a
relative value of $2 to $3 compared with other on-line auction stocks. Mr.
Pavan's comment helped drop the stock to $8.50, but yesterday it had
skyrocketed to close at $24.50. Mr. Paterson says, "In our business it is very,
very rare that a dealer has the courage to recommend a sale on one of its
underwriting clients." Mr. Paterson says he is meeting Paul Godin, CEO of
Bid.Com, for dinner this week to ensure the relationship with the on-line auction
company has not been damaged.
