I gather I do this in the edit mode, on SI? Yes, in edit mode. I think the messed up columns has to do with how "hard" and "soft" carriage returns are treated. It's a bit of a pain. I usually go to the end of a line and hit DELETE to pull the subsequent line up, or move to a point in the current line and hit ENTER to move the rest of the current line down. I think different editors treat the returns differently. I edit, then do the preview, then go back and edit anything that doesn't look right.
