Bid.com Shares Climb Ahead Of Live Auction On Internet Dow Jones Online News, Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at 13:29 NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Shares of Bid.com Inc. rose sharply Tuesday on momentum created by the online auction house's participation in what was being touted as the Internet's first live online audio auction. At midday, the stock (BIDS) traded at $20, up $3.5625, or 22%. The stock reached as high as $23.625, the highest the stock has traded since it received approval last week to trade on the Nasdaq National Market. Shares of Bid.com also trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Much has been made of the auction on Internet message boards. Bid.com's live audio auction is slated for Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. EDT. The "Dutch auction" allows buyers to bid on items during a set period of time during which the price of the item will decline every few seconds. In all, a list of eight items are up for sale. Live-streaming video and audio will allow users to watch the auction via the Internet. On-screen counters will display not only the price of each item, but also the number of items remaining and the time remaining for bids. Auction participants must register ahead of time to receive a user name and password, both of which are needed to submit bids online.
