Tempted am I to let her pine on that Rogers churl, she will soon enough regret her foolish error. But once before she wavered, and would have been gone, but saved herself at the last trump, and was richly rewarded for her return to fidelity. But she plays the game again, and I am minded to let her flee to those barren arms and suffer. [Aside: But only, my Edwarda, if thou cometh forth with a better offer. O let me hear thy dulcet tones and the offer thou will make to attempt to entice my attentions to a new canvas for a fresh masterpiece.] Well, for now I will let her linger in doubt. 'tis best for her, and mayhap 'twill make her repent her silliness, which in a girl is natural but in a woman of her maturity and charms quickly cloys.
