Because when you start stifling bad stuff, you stifle the good stuff too. I was sure he had all these negative things going on inside and wouldn't talk about them. And I was all disrupted by hormones. As it turned out, Dan is an extremely content man. He doesn't need or expect much, and very little upsets him, besides garden tools. Once I stopped thinking I was responsible for this silence, it was much easier. Control? I don't think so...just different ways of expressing ourselves. My family never expressed anger aggressively and I'm terrified of it.
