I suspect the successful ones stick to very liquid issues....IBM, MSFT, DELL, etc.

SCH put spreads went way off base once that big decline hit. My leap puts went from a spread of 3/16 to 1/2! Bid 1/2 ask 1 today. Was 13/16 to 1 on the pos4 run-up.

If you are day trading options going long and short, you have to stick with very liquid at the money options, and most specialize on a stock or two or an index
