Re: "You are the one that made the comparison in the first place."

No, he didn't. I think it's pretty clear from his statement that he was comparing IF_Merced to the Alpha that will exist when IF_Merced finally arrives. If he weren't, then you'd be making a stink about the performance side of his assertion--because surely the IF_Merced that arrives wouldn't be two years behind a .35u Alpha in performance, would it?

"I am very excited about IA64. It should be only about 2 years behind Alpha in performance, and the die sizes will be only about 4X the size of Alpha."

You think you're being clever, but we see right through it, "Bill".

Paul,

Conversing with you helps me understand what insurance investigators are up against.

Re: "I'm not sure that it is a very realistic to compare a 0.35u Alpha
with a 0.18 or 0.13 IF_Merced."

Why?

You are the one that made the comparison in the first place.

Now you want to tap dance around your statements?

-------

Haven't looked at the start of the thread.. but no it isn't fair
to compare Merced to .35 21264 (vanilla EV6). Even from a marketing
sense it is hard to compare your latest and greatest CPU against
a CPU that has been shipping for 2 years when 2 revs of the same
CPU came out. Meaning: By the time Merced volume ships (assuming
it ever does) .35 21264 won't even be shipping. The comparison
should be against the EV68 (most likely volume shipping for 6 months
prior to Merced volume). EV68 is the part to watch. Yes, let
me repeat.. EV68 is the Merced killer. Not only is it on par
performance wise but Compaq points out it will be 1/5 the cost.
