Don't get me wrong!! I think Ebay has a great business.... all you have to do is look at all the garage sales and flea markets going one to understand the demand for other peoples' trinkets and trash... how does that go... "One man's trash is another man's treasure". The one draw back I can see to their business is that their GP is fixed at a relatively low percentage regardless of the item they are selling. Of course this isn't a big problem because they do have the volume. Companies which are true on-line retailers should be able to demand significantly better margins, and given comparable volume will do much better however. bid.com is somewhere in the middle. They will have better margins than Ebay but maybe not as much volume, but their margins won't be as strong as a true retailer although they will likely have a higher volume.

Net ... net ... is that "in the real world" there is room for all three business models and I think this will be the case on the internet as well. We've all seen articles about the potential size of the total market so there are significant opps for everybody. Gee... everyone talks as if there will only be one internet auction company that wins.... in reality both uBid and bid.com can coexist and both do very well.... mind you being market leader is always nice.

Hi Kevin,

We've spoken before. Welcome to BIDS thread.

Just give BIDS a chance. There is room for more than just one EBAY.

Good Luck
