It sounds kinda like black helicopter time. But I get more cynical as I get older. This may sound OT, I don't think it is. I am reading a book about apples, and just finished a chapter about fire blight, which is an apple disease. According to the Japanese government, there is no fire blight in Japan. So all American apples are subject to extremely stringent, expensive controls. There is something that looks an awful lot like fire blight in Japan, but if you take a sample, the entity which tests it is the Japanese government, and it always tests negative. A Japanese scientist sent some samples to be tested in the U.S. and it tested positive for fire blight. The scientist was hounded from his job and committed suicide.

The story has nothing to do with investing. And everything to do with the trustworthiness of governments. I am sorry to say.
