Guess that depends on how you define assault weapons? For myself, when I lived in Chicago, I found an assault rifle a particularly good way to discourage burglars and assorted "nefarious" people who tried to visit me in the dead of night without an invite. JLA

The term "assault weapon" was made up out of thin air by the anti gun lobby. There is now such thing as an assault weapon so the NRA cannot oppose their ban.

Neocon: Re: Assault Weapons. I think you might find this very interesting.

In addition, the year before "assault weapons" were 'banned' more people were killed with baseball bats than with assault weapons. What I find interesting is that anyone with any knowledge of firearms knows any common hunting rifle can inflict far more damage than almost any assault weapon. If you are hit with a 30.06 round anywhere in the torso area you are probably going to die. If one wanted to inflict the most damage in the least amount of time then the common shotgun is most effective. Both the kids at Columbine used shotguns. It will be interesting to find how many died by shotgun vs the "assault weapon".
