Market

Broadband Internet Access Provider Furthers Strategic Partnership With Caching Technology
Leader Through Appointment as Exclusive OEM Distributor for Traffic Server to Small and
Mid-Sized Cable Operators; SoftNet-Distributed Inktomi Traffic Server to be Called 'SkyPop'

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading broadband Internet services company, SoftNet Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SOFN - news) today announced its furthered strategic partnership with leading Internet caching technology company,
Inktomi Corp. (Nasdaq: INKT - news). The two companies have entered into an agreement whereby SoftNet has been
appointed the exclusive OEM (original equipment manufacturer) distributor of an Inktomi Traffic Server product running on the
FreeBSD platform for small and mid-sized cable operators worldwide. The SoftNet-distributed Inktomi caching server and
satellite based broadband delivery service will be called SkyPOP(TM).

Through SkyPOP, SoftNet, and its subsidiaries ISP Channel and Intellicom, will provide a state-of-the-art platform for
delivering, filtering, personalizing and caching video/audio streams to cable systems, apartments, hotels, schools and businesses.

''We are pleased to be working closely with Inktomi because they clearly have the best caching technology solution available
on the market today,'' said Dr. Lawrence Brilliant, president and chief executive officer of SoftNet Systems, Inc. ''This strategic
relationship with such a noted industry leader is a key example of how we will continue to bring best-of-breed Internet
technologies to our partnering cable affiliates, so that the end user, accessing the Internet via their cable head-end, is
experiencing maximum speed and downloading efficiency.''

''We are pleased to partner with Internet-access-over-cable-system leader, SoftNet Systems, Inc. to extend our reach into the
cable modem market,'' said Paul Gauthier, chief technology officer of Inktomi. ''Traffic Server's scalability and performance
provides an ideal software platform, complementing SoftNet's ISP Channel access service, for even faster online content
access.''

Through SkyPOP, cable operators and MDUs (multiple dwelling units) partnering with SoftNet's ISP Channel to deliver
high-speed Internet access, will significantly enhance the Net users experience. Inktomi's Traffic Server technology speeds
traffic flow on the Internet by intelligently storing, or ''caching,'' information closer to the user. It minimizes redundant traffic,
increasing effective bandwidth, adding speed and reliability.
