You should go read the "Ambush in Mogadishu" feature in PBS Frontline about the US Rangers in Somalia. pbs.org The Rangers were ambushed by men, women, and children. They returned fire in that situation also.

With an automatic weapon, it doesn't take much to be a killer as shown in Littleton, Co.
