There are many bottlenecks between you and the data. If SI can't deliver the data to your ISP fast enough, a faster pipe to you won't help at all. I'm connected at 28.8, but many times I see web sites being downloaded at really low speeds like 284 bytes/sec. This isn't the modem's fault.

OT OT - yeah, my @home is a great, great deal faster than my 56k connection. Maybe you should investigate, e.g., complain to @home. Even reading the SI posts is much faster for me. But bear in mind there are several other potential bottlenecks besides the bandwidth into your home: the server being key. No matter how fast my connection is, if SI's Web and DBMS servers are choking, it won't do me any good.
