Search and Rescue--Helping people in distress.
I am a member of my county sheriff's search and rescue team and have been for around 16 years. It is a worthy thing to volunteer for and I would urge all of you to join. The personal fulfillment is the real reward. Let offer an example:
We recently got a call out for a missing 17 year old male. He simply vanished from his house. He lived in a semi rural area and we did a great deal of searching around his house. I spoke with his mother for some time and she was very distraught and had no idea why her son was gone. She portrayed him as happy at home and doing well in school.
We searched for two days in an ever expanding circle when we got our first break. Someone had seen him at the local bus station. His bike was found there and when checked it was discovered his bank account had been reduced from $400 to 0, right before he disappeared.
We decided he had taken off for parts unknown and gave up the search. However his father who was not living at home with the mother and boy had some political pull so we were put back in the field for two more days. At that point the search was called off, the political pull was still going strong but we are a volunteer unit and we were damned if we were going to keep looking in the same places for someone who had obviously left the area.
A week later the missing boy returned home. His mother was kind enough to come to our monthly meeting and thank us. She spoke of how he was just feeling 'fragile' and she was being very careful with her errant son. However I spoke with one of the Sheriff deputies who interviewed the lad when he returned. He said that the wayward boy had been very open about what he had done (though not to mom).
It seems that the lad had been suffering from Virgo Intacto and had badly wanted to cure it. None of the local belles of his high school were interested in him so he came up with a plan. He withdrew his savings, bought a bus ticket to San Diego, and then crossed the border to Tiajauna. He located a house of ill repute and the solution to his virginity problem was at hand. He spent every dime he had on hookers and then returned home. His only regret was he bought a bus ticket, he would have liked to spend the money on more Tiajauna rides and and have hitchhiked back and forth.
I still get a warm feeling about this search. While we spent sixteen hour days in the July sun looking for him, he was working on Latin American relations.

This story is even true.

To All: I did a little research on everyone here.
It came as a surprise to me that all the regulars have ex's. That they were ex's was not the surprise that they ever were items with you was though.
I was also surprised that they want to see you again. Interestingly enough they all said the same thing: That they thought you would want the meeting to be public. So I took the trouble to arrange it. Sherry, Kasha, BamaReb, Lee, Solon, Taxi, and TLC, you are all scheduled for the Jerry Springer show of June 10. To "Meet again with someone you once dated and are angry about the way it went."
I feel like Cupid.

Throw the first punch, it seems to be the best tactic.
