At least developers still love Glide. Quothe CapnBill of Origin's dev team for Ultima IX: Ascension (which is only the most highly anticipated RPG of the decade):

Our spell effects were developed under Glide, and of course look great in Glide. We're developing our Direct3D renderer code to support the same feature, IF the hardware supports it. This means that, on most D3D cards, there will be little or no visual difference between Glide & D3D. On some crads, there may be a difference due to the lack of support of certain critical features on that hardware.

We do not know yet which boards, or which features, however.

So even though the resulting visuals may be the same, Glide still has their vote of confidence.
