On the lighter side. If you still doubt that we live in a digital society, consider what happened to Jerry L. Johnson recently. Johnson is a telecommunications industry veteran who's now an executive vice president of Safeguard Scientifics Inc., a Wayne-based developer of information technology companies. While speaking at a seminar on technology sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, he relayed the following story: He was at home when his wife came into the room and asked him what a T-1 line was. He told her it's a phone line that can handle a huge amount of data. Then, his curiosity piqued, he asked her why she wanted to know. She said their son had just informed her that he wanted a T-1 line for his birthday. "Whatever happened," Johnson said, "to wanting a car?" bob
