Why place blame for stock values?

Wednesday, April 28, 1999
Stephen Northfield

For the moment, Web stocks are day traders' playthings and they will be
until they get bored with them and move on to something else.

Until that happens, there will be huge ups and downs, presenting
enormous opportunities to make and lose money. Attempting to impose
any kind of rational structure on all this frantic activity is pure folly.
Within this context, the very notion of such stocks being overvalued or
undervalued, seems quaint and more than a little antiquated.

Instead of undervalued and overvalued, insert the words "in demand" and
"not in demand." If you can figure out which has the upper hand -- supply
or demand -- you should do just fine.
