ATI's RAGE PRO TURBO(TM) graphics chip inside Gobi's free net machine
TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) has been selected by Gobi, Inc. as the provider of graphics and video acceleration for the advanced multimedia computer systems it will provide to its subscribers. ATI's industry favorite RAGE PRO TURBO graphics and video chip, combined with Intel's Celeron(R) processor and Microsoft's Windows(R) 98, offers Gobi subscribers state-of-the-art on-line computing. In the most exciting and innovative Internet access program to date, Gobi is offering a computer and unlimited Internet access for only $25.99 a month. To ensure that subscribers are equipped with the best system for surfing the Web, playing 3D games, downloading 3D images and video, the New York-based company selected ATI's RAGE PRO TURBO graphics and video chip, which features support for 2X AGP and 4MB of video memory, for the PC systems it will be distributing. ''Gobi is committed to providing its customers with the highest quality products, and the RAGE PRO TURBO chip allows us to give our subscribers access to the most sophisticated video graphics,'' said Ganesh Ramakrishnan, CEO of Gobi, Inc. Gobi will also replace the system every 36 months, to ensure subscribers continually have access to the current specification computers. The only other costs additional to the monthly subscription fee are a $29.99 set-up fee and a $45 shipping and handling charge. ''Together, ATI and Gobi are taking a giant stride forward in bringing the Internet home to a much wider group of users,'' said Ed Grondahl, vice president of product marketing at ATI. ''Our two companies are a good match on this initiative, and Gobi subscribers will benefit from our product's excellent graphics and video acceleration, as well as the best deal in town for access to the Internet.'' ATI's RAGE PRO TURBO chip delivers a high level of realism in 3D applications for avid gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. The RAGE PRO TURBO chip's hardware-assist function for software DVD replay, called motion compensation, produces crisp, full motion, full screen video MPEG2 playback for the best in home theater and entertainment applications, without the need of a powerful and expensive CPU, lowering overall system cost. The RAGE PRO TURBO chip's superior AGP technology will bring the full benefit of the new graphics bus to Gobi's subscribers. ATI's leading-edge AGP 2X implementation, which includes SideBand Addressing (SBA) and Pipelining as well as AGP Texturing, increases the intensity of 3D images on the screen.
