Don, i have no figure on equity open interest specifically, but the open interest on all CBOE options is: calls: 13,546,089 puts: 9,016,111. as OI on index products is generally heavier on the put side, it can be inferred that call OI on equities is considerably higher than put OI. some of this is covered call writing, but all in all i'd say it is a negative for the market.
