Yiwu, Ok, I think I understand what Datek did. BTW, the 50% initial margin ability is a Fed Reserve regulation, not SEC. The mandatory lower level maintenance requirement is actually 25%, which I believe is an exchange rule, not Fed or SEC. Most brokers have internal rules that are higher than 25% ..... 30% is pretty standard.
