Casema Selects Com21 for Cable Modem Pilot
Largest Cable Operator in The Netherlands Begins High-Speed Cable Internet and Voice Services

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1999--Com21, Inc., (Nasdaq:CMTO - news), Europe's leading cable modem supplier, today announced that Casema Kabeltelevisie N.V. (Casema), the largest cable operator in The Netherlands, will begin a multi-phase cable and voice modem pilot using Com21's ComPORT® cable modems for high-speed Internet access over cable. Casema offers CATV services to 1.2 million subscribers in The Netherlands, and Internet service to more than 20,000 users through its data-over-cable service. Casema is the largest cable ISP in Europe. The Company plans to aggressively expand its Internet services during the next few years.

The first phase beginning in Q2'99 is a rollout to 500 homes in the town of Breda. Casema will be working with TELiNDUS, a European system integration partner for Com21. TELiNDUS will also provide the technical installation, service and support during this multi-phase service trial.

According to Casema, Com21 was selected to participate in the trials because its modems offer a wide range of IP and voice options important to the trial.
