DJ JetForm Sees Difficult Next Couple Of Quarters

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--JetForm Corp. (FORM) President and Chief Executive John Kelly told an analyst conference call that he expects the next couple of quarters for the company will be difficult because of a continued slowdown in sales because of Year 2000 conversion.

Kelly said he expects sales to not grow significantly for the next couple of quarters from the fourth quarter, but he also expects sales to not deteriorate over that time.

He expects JetForm to be "cash neutral" on an operating basis during the next two to three quarters. He said the company is comfortable that its cash position is strong enough to sustain the company until sales improve in 2000 when Kelly expects there will be a turnaround in demand for electronic forms processes.

JetForm reported fourth-quarter revenue of C$26.2 million and a loss of C$31 million, due to an operating loss of C$5.8 million and a charge of C$30.5 million. Charges in the quarter included $21.6 million to writedown of assets and $8.9 million to fund restructuring costs.

JetForm ran into heavy troubles in fiscal 1999 due to Y2K and has gone through heavy restructuring. Many of JetForm's customers have diverted technology spending to Y2K problems this year or have stopped spending on new software until they are sure Y2K problems are fixed. JetForm has also redeveloped its electronic forms products for the Internet as part of its restructuring.

There has been talk in the market that JetForm might be a takeover target, but Kelly said his company is not in discussion with any parties about a merger at this time. Kelly said he bought 215,000 shares in the past several weeks at C$6.25 to C$6.50 a share.
