John -- I agree, if they would use Mavis' picture instead of Cue-Ball Cramer there would much more interest...maybe even a Mave's Our Fave web site. That CNBC Eye-talian babe wouldn't stand a chance. (I'll be seeing Mavis next week, and I'll give her your kind regards.)

My opinion on drilling permits is that they are NOT a good indicator. Oil companies file permits andplans for many wells that never get drilled. Maybe the actual drilling is dependent on the success of a nearby well...and that one turns out to be a duster.

Or maybe they are filed with the hopes of getting the money -- from budgets or partners -- and the money never comes.

There are so many reasons why an oil company would file palns and permits without immediate intentions to drill. Maybe it would be interesting to have a look back and see how many of the Plans of Exploration and the permits filed were actually drilled...this MIGHT give a clue, but even then I wouldn't bet on it since there are so many variables involved and since the act of filing represents zero obligation on behalf of the oil company.

I am surprise that Bo made that statement. He is a smart guy and I think he may have mispoke...I could be wrong, maybe he really thinks that. I don't.
