Jim - "The public is being very passive about the CPU-ID. After all they voted in Clinton twice. They think, no problem we can turn it off. A couple of years from now, listen to them scream when Microsoft and a bunch of other software vendors tell them to "turn in on".

I don't necessarily believe this is a scenario that will come to pass. My crystal ball must be foggy today. It certainly hasn't come to pass yet.

"Now, PB, tell us again why a business needs a Pentium III rather than a Celeron or a K6 for that matter."

Your a tough customer Jim, and Marketing / Sales is not my gig. I will say again, that evidently many Business customers plan to utilize the Serial ID for asset tracking. Also, my gut feel based on early indications is that many software developers will develop content optimized for the PIII SSE's, Gaming and other 3D content.

"Gamers can't afford Pentium IIIs. What else is there? Virtuosa Gold and Naturally speaking?"

I know you know how this works by now. The PIII's price will come down, as speed upgrades are introduced over time. I also can't necessarily agree with a general statement like "Gamers can't afford it". I would hazzard a guess that some gamers can.
