Ron-

<<I don't recall claiming Lee's innocence, only that he should not be proclaimed guilty until the facts are known. >>

No, you did not claim he was innocent. I didn't say you did. You merely indicated the charges against Lee were based on McCarthyism and racism. Since you failed in any way to substantiate your claim, I think you are making a distinction without a significant difference. It's a bit like the Jesuits accused of killing three men and a dog, who then proceed to triumphantly produce the dog alive. BTW, who has "proclaimed [Lee] guilty"?- at this point he has not yet been formally charged.

<<IMO evidence obtained now does not justify the earlier accusations of his guilt. >>

I don't see how you can legitimately make such a statement, since presumably you don't know what evidence was available. Do you think investigators are telling everything they know to the press? It seems to me if matters were left to those of your persuasion, serious charges of espionage would not be investigated, at least if they involved ethnic minorities.

What bothered me the most about your post was the easy resort to the charges of racism & McCarthyism. You have not justified your serious charges against the investigators. I find the charge of racism has become the first resort of a scoundrel (please, I am not implying you are a scoundrel). The essence of McCarthyism was making charges without evidence, something that does not appear to have happened in the Lee case.

P.S. FWIW I also was involved in a situation somewhat akin to your satellite data transfer case in which I was told do not use certain words. The company I was working for then proceeded to use these vorboten words in its job postings!
