Gene: They're trying to figure out just how good Dell's fiscal 1Q will be. The IDC and Dataquest figure look very good for Dell, and since Dell reported that last Jan was where the 4Q revenue numbers were missed, it would be reasonable to presume that Dell's Feb and Mar numbers must have been very strong, which would in turn support the notion of a very strong 1Q report. Seems a reasonable thing to think about and try to confirm. In fact, I believe IDC or Dataquest responded that indeed the report covered 1Q calendar 1999. So, unless April was a very bad month indeed, for which there is no evidence, Dell's 1Q numbers might provide a real upside surprise for those not paying close attention. JMO.

Gene, They did that last quarter, too. One of my biggest laughs was when three Dellnialists plugged the IDC calendar 4Q numbers into a Dell model to come up with 1 Fiscal Q revenues way above forecasts. Didn't quite turn out that way. <g>
