I know the NRA has a lot of paid propagandists masquerading as scientists, just like the tobacco companies.

In the interests of clarity: Mr. Lott is an economist and statistician, not a scientist; doesn't belong to the NRA and never had an interest in doing so; did this study as an academic endeavor since he had no agenda either way when he started out. I'm sure if Mr. Lott had any affiliation w/any organization construed as right wing it would be shouted to the rooftops by the left to try and discredit him.

I no more want the "solution" to be 'right-to-carry' laws anymore than you. It's not the only solution by any stretch of logic but it can perhaps help to save more lives and reduce crime while we work on the solution(s). Remember, most people used to carry guns at one time and as we became more 'civilized' and 'urbanized' there ceased to be a need to continue doing so. I'm sure there will again to be less need to do so sometime in the future, hopefully the very near future.
