future of ecommerce: yes...it's an electronic version of the mail-order catalog and the library. The only people that will make any profit from it are the search-engine companies and the market-makers, and the utility companies. The thing the e-nuts don't seem to understand is that advertising is a business expense for most companies, not a profit center...a company that has goods to sell has a limited ad budget that has to be targeted to prospective customers by billboard, newspaper, magazines, internet, radio, etc. There is no barrier to entry, anybody can set up web advertising for free. The internet is going to cost many companies more money than they'll ever recoup in new business if they have to pay for it. As far as cost of goods, it's more expensive to buy a book over the internet than it is at my local bookstore, freight costs are expensive for individual items.
Oh, it sells dell computers and microsoft software, people are in panic that they are missing something if they're not on line. when the novelty wears off people will find themselves going to the brick-and-mortar equivalents because they crave human contact and can touch the merchandise.
