A rise in crude oil prices gave traders another reason to
avoid bonds. Crude, used to make everything from gasoline to
asphalt, climbed more than 3 percent to a 16-month high,
triggering concern inflation may quicken, though it hasn't yet.
Inflation eats away at the value of a bond's fixed payments.
