From that CNET article

"... The game maker (Sega) recorded a consolidated net loss in 1997/98 of 35.6 billion yen ($299.2 million).

Although ready to battle Sony last November with the debut of its powerful Dreamcast game console, Sega's sales of the 128-bit, Internet-capable Dreamcast console and software were smaller than hoped for and dashed the company's hopes of returning to profit."

As you can see, Sega has virtually no hope of hurting Sony and their mighty Playstation empire. I know of numerous kids who are already harassing their parents to save up for a PlayStation II for Christmas. There has been NOT ONE request for a Dreamcast. And the pre-release Hype for Playstation II is already beginning, thanks to interviews with Sony execs, gaming magazine articles, internet chatter, and game-fanatics in public schools.

Sony's Playstation II rollout will be MASSIVE...Count on it. And it will CRUSH Dreamcast.

(Hell, it's ALREADY crushing Dreamcast with only Sony pre-release Hype)

And the supposed Zip-based Optional storage add-on (due March 2000) for Dreamcast has little hope of delivering any kind of meaningful profit for IOM since the installed base of Dreamcasts is/will be so small. Besides, the OEM Zip will probably be sold for a loss to Sega, just as OEM Zips are sold at a loss now.
