Mike, I don't recall where I read it but during the last recession 90-91 earnings declined 30%. Factor in a decline in earnings due to a contraction in the economy, poor quality earnings, the disappearance of the bubble's wealth effect, credit contraction and an increase in savings rate once the market stops spinning straw into gold and you have a severe dose of tough love fer da global economy.
