Yes, unfortunately, the AMAT is still very dependent on the DRAM market. During the high flying periods of 1995-1997, AMAT's rise can be attributed to the $100M+ orders from Samsung and Hyundai. Now Korea is in the tank.

So what is your conclusion? My hypothesis was that given the low margins and the recent bleeding of DRAM (and other semies), they would be reluctant to spend the money on new process or even expand the existing capacity, unless they sense serious pick up in net revenue and net profits ahead. Do you agree with this? And do you see such a revival ahead?

Another thing that I've been looking for, are companies that would benefit from home/appliance automations and PDAs. The idea being that eventually all the home appliances will have mini-computers inside them and will be networked to an "inteligent" house. To this end, I've picked Sony, Hitachi, and Matsushita as the forerunners. And of course, given that I've been one the the very first people to buy (and love) a Palm Pilot, I am keen to know who will benefit from the PDAs. But so far all the companies that I can find are very big and "consumer" oriented companies. I am interested in finding chip makers (or other related companies) that would benefit from such a move. Any ideas?
